Michael North has been surrounded by music since he was a child. After years of hearing his father sing bass with the doowop group the Spaniels, Michael sparked his natural ear for music. At the age of 10 his journey into the music world began. He learned to play several instruments including drums, trombone, baritone, tuba, guitar, and piano. Michael's main instrument and gift is his voice. With regard to singing and vocal arrangement, in an interview Michael said, "I just try to vocally recreate what I hear the instruments in my head playing". With such an instrumentation background and an absolute understanding of melody and harmony, it's no wonder many have called Michael's vocals the tightest and smoothest they've ever heard. And so the complete package for singing, writing, composing, and producing has been formed.
Michael's first experience in singing for an audience was at his freshman dance at Ambassador College. He and his group called The Brothers Three sang the song "Special Lady" and it created an incredible hype for all the students and faculty. This was the start of four years of singing on several occasions at various and sundry events. During his college years Michael was also a part of The Young Ambassadors. This was a song and dance group which performed at an array of family entertainment venues. Some included the Rose Parade breakfast, Rotary clubs, and several churches throughout southern California.
After college Michael remained involved with music with the group Between the Lines. This group created two albums, the second called "Come Unto Me" which was a Christian contemporary album. Michael produced and executive produced this project, successfully fine tuning his production and programming skills. Since "Come Unto Me", Michael's prolific writing and composition skills have opened the door to work on many music projects. For years Michael has worked behind the scenes programming, producing and singing background vocals for such artists as Cindy Braggs (EnVogue), Patrice Rushen, Jonathan Butler, Frank Sinatra Jr., Tata Vega, and many other popular artists.
In 2003 Michael became worship leader at the 10,000 plus member church Shepherd of the Hills in Porter Ranch, CA. After a year of people being touched by Michael's musical capabilities, many started requesting an album. Being inspired and filled with a growing desire to share the songs God was birthing, the journey of Michael's first Christian contemporary solo album was then launched.
"You're My Song" is the culmination of 11 songs dedicated to the glory of our awesome God with the purpose of inspiring followers of Jesus Christ in their walk with the Lord. Michael feels that because music is such a unique vehicle for message, many who don't know Jesus Christ will also be touched and moved in their hearts. To that end, the modern contemporary vibe of "You're My Song" makes it an easy palate for non-believers to receive the clear message of God's love and grace. Michael states, "I pray that everyone who hears this album will be moved in their spirit and will catch a glimpse of the one true God who loves us all so deeply."
